Missouri Gamma (Washington) Phis Excel On and Off the Field

The Missouri Gamma Chapter of Phi Delta Theta at Washington University has had an incredibly successful year. Senior Brandon Rogalski and Sophomore Kyle Billig each set single-season school records for the Washington University baseball team this year. Billig broke his own single-season stolen bases record with 35 steals. Rogalski tied two of his own single-season records. He tied his hits record from last year (74) and increased his WU career hits record total to 213. Rogalski also tied his single-season at-bats record (169) and was named the UAA player of the year. The Washington University Phi Delts aren’t restricted to the baseball field. Sophomore Chris Klimek was voted All-Region and second-team all UAA for his outstanding performance as a forward for the basketball team. Junior Ryan Doll set a school record (22.27) in finishing as the runner-up in the 200 at the 2012 UAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Senior Easton Knott, a wide receiver for the football team, was voted the UAA Co-Offensive Player of the Year, becoming the fourth player in school history to earn this honor. Phil Stoecker was also named to D3Proday.com's All-American team as a tight end for the football team. Other awards for Phis on the football team include first-team all UAA (Knott, Phill Stoecker, Kyle Larkin, and Scott O’Brien) as well as several other members who won second-team and honorable mention accolades. Former President Chris LaBarge was voted captain for the 2012 fall football season. He replaces three Phi Delt captains, Jake Lewis, Kyle Larkin, and Austin Morman who will graduate this spring. Rogalski is currently a co-captain of the baseball team, Alex Toth is a graduating senior and co-captain of the basketball team and Doll has been voted to co-captain the track team next year. These men assume leadership roles and represent Phi Delta Theta with pride.

Missouri Gamma's excellence is not limited to athletics. Seniors Ed Ferguson, Daniel Grimm, Matt Hasmonek, Kyle Larkin, Jake Lewis, and John Meikel were named to the 2012 National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame Hampshire Honor Society. The NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of 721 college football players from all divisions of play, who each maintained a 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career. Kyle Larkin and Sophomore Scott O’Brien were also voted to the Capital One Academic All District Team. In order to be selected to an academic all-district team, a student-athlete must demonstrate success on the playing field and in the classroom, with academic and athletic achievements taken into consideration. The student-athlete must possess a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. These Phis are spectacular examples of what it means to excel in and out of the classroom.

Along with this excellence in the classroom and on the field, Missouri Gamma seized many opportunities to help in the community. Junior House Manager Zach Swanson was the president of ‘Thurtene,’ the largest student run carnival in the country. Seniors Greg Jones and Cody Katz play major roles in student government. Kyle Larkin, mentioned above, met with a contact at a middle school in St. Louis and began a tutoring program in which several Phis now participate. This is a program that they plan on continuing far into the future. In addition, the Fraternity raised over $5,000 for the fight against ALS in the philanthropy event Run For Your Life put on every spring semester.
