Iron Phi Program Adds ALS Society of Canada and the Canadian Scholarship Foundation as Beneficiaries
168382_488523050605_5548911_n.jpgPhi Delta Theta is proud to announce the addition of two beneficiaries to its Iron Phi program.  Participants from the Fraternity’s seven Canadian chapters will now see their funds raised split equally and granted to The ALS Society of Canada and the Canadian Phi Delta Theta Scholarship Foundation.

The mission of the Iron Phi program is to strengthen the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity and the impact it has on the fight against Lou Gehrig's disease through the fundraising and athletic efforts of its members.  Launched in February of 2010, more than 1,000 Phis have registered for the program and have collectively raised nearly $325,000.  One hundred and thirty nine Phis have become Iron Phis by raising at least $1,000 and completing an athletic event of their choice.

All funds raised by participants from American chapters will continue to be split equally and granted to The ALS Association and the Phi Delta Theta Foundation.

Director of Communications & Iron Phi Steve Good stated, “Our ultimate goal with the Iron Phi program is to raise funds to fight Lou Gehrig’s disease and strengthen Phi Delta Theta. We’re able to have a greater impact with more participation in the program.  As the program has grown, we’ve received feedback from our Canadian brothers asking if the Fraternity would consider directing funds raised by Canadian brothers to the Canadian equivalents of our two initial beneficiaries.  While we have no interest in further increasing the number of Iron Phi beneficiaries, this feedback and decision made sense.  We hope that it will mobilize more of our Canadian brothers to participate in the program and further the program’s impact.”

Each January, the Phi Delta Theta Foundation grants Iron Phi dollars raised from the previous calendar year to The ALS Association.  The first grants to The ALS Society of Canada and the Canadian Phi Delta Theta Scholarship Foundation will be made during January of 2013.  The initial grants will be from dollars raised by Canadian Phi Delts from January 1 – December 31, 2012.
