Naturally, Wes Welker would have preferred a win. But, that doesn’t meanthe fact he passed Troy Brown as the Pats all-time reception leader should go without recognition.

His 25-yard reception right before the half gave him 558 receptions as a Patriot, nudging him ahead of Brown, who was just enshrined in the Patriots Hall of Fame.

Welker agreed the record lost a little of its luster due to losing 20-18 to the Cardinals. ”You want to win the game,” he said. ”It is, what it is.”

Welker wound up catching 5 passes for 90 yards on the day, something quarterback Tom Brady certainly didn’t take for granted.

”He’s a phenomenal player and when he makes plays, it really sparks our whole offense and he made a bunch of them today,” Brady said. ”That’s what we need. We just have to do a little bit more to get the ball in the end zone.”

It wasn’t until Aaron Hernandez went down with an ankle injury, that Welker really got involved in the game, or game plan. Prior to that, he was almost non-existant. You can read more about that aspect in tomorrow’s Herald.
