12 New York Zeta Phis (Colgate) Run From New Haven, CT to Boston, MA for Iron Phi

ragnar_relay_nyzeta.jpgAll fraternity men see the value of some good brotherhood bonding, but the brothers of New York Zeta at Colgate University took it to an extreme this May as 12 brothers spent 29 sleepless hours in sweat-filled vans as they ran in the Ragnar Relay from New Haven, Connecticut to Boston, Massachusetts.  The race was part of the Chapter's main philanthropy event for the semester, bringing in over $2,000 for the Iron Phi initiative.

The racing kicked off at 7 AM on a Friday morning as Van 1 departed from New Haven.  The staggered start times put New York Zeta in the earliest grouping, but they found company by running beside the "Band of Mothers" as well as several other teams of older women, relationships that would grow stronger for the next day and a half.  Runners ran in roughly six mile shifts to set exchange points where the team van would be waiting at the next exchange point.  After the first six runners had gone, van 2 took over bringing in the next shift of brothers while van 1 traveled to an exchange point up the road.  This route followed the southern coast of Connecticut, continued up the Rhode Island border, before crossing into Massachusetts sometime around 2 AM on Saturday.  The race concluded 29 and half hours after it started in Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots.  The event is something these 12 brothers will not forget anytime soon.
