Ontario Gamma (McMaster) Raises $7,350 for Local Community |
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "We are rich only through what we give, and poor only through what we refuse.” This past year, the Ontario Gamma Chapter at McMaster University lived by such a principle.
On New Year’s, the brothers at Ontario Gamma made a resolution to do more for their local community than any other fraternity, sorority, or university-recognized club. Resolution accomplished.
The philanthropy committee was dedicated to networking with local groups and organizing events. By the end of the 2009/2010 academic year, the Chapter raised $7,350 in donations and collected over 4,000 lbs of goods for hunger-relief efforts and local soup kitchens. All this was accomplished through volunteer work with just one organization, the Hamilton Food Share. Ontario Gamma is hoping to expand on their efforts in 2010/2011.
