Oklahoma Gamma (SWOSU) Colonizes with 32 Founding Fathers |
|
On October 24, 2009, thirty-two men were inducted into the Oklahoma Gamma colony of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. The colonization of Oklahoma Gamma comes after a 17-year hiatus of Phi Delta Theta from SWOSU.
In the spring of 2009, Kappa Gamma Beta, a local fraternity established on the SWOSU campus in 2002, began searching for an international fraternity with which to affiliate. Their search led them to Phi Delt. After several conversations with General Headquarters staff and regional volunteers, Kappa Gamma Beta became officially recognized as the Oklahoma Gamma Interest Group.
In the fall of 2009, Oklahoma Gamma returned to campus and immediately began making an impact. They quickly became one of the largest fraternities at SWOSU with membership involved in almost every aspect of campus. In early October the interest group submitted their petition for colonization and was approved by both the Survey Commission and General Council of the Fraternity.
The ceremony, held amidst Homecoming weekend festivities, was presided over by Rho Northwest Province President Keith Brown, West Texas A&M ’91, and was attended by several alumni including Survey Commissioner Curt Boecking, Oklahoma ’78, and Rick Shelby, Bond #1 of Oklahoma Gamma.
The colony hopes to become installed as a chapter in the spring semester.
Congratulations can be sent to colony President Tyler Brack at
