On August 27, Phi Delta Theta at the University of Southern Indiana held its inaugural Phi-K running race. The event was held within the campus community and encouraged brothers to raise funds on their way to becoming Iron Phis. Indiana Lambda dedicated the event to Brother Chad Smith who had been battling ALS. Unfortunately, Brother Smith passed away the week before the event took place. The members of Indiana Lambda observed a moment of silence for Brother Smith at the event. Two of the top three finishers were alumni from the chapter. Nearly 75 people ran in the race and the chapter was able to raise $4,228 for the Iron Phi program.
