The Houston Phi Delta Theta Alumni Club celebrated Founders Day on April 26 at the Houston Racquet Club.
More than 85 brothers from 21 different chapters enjoyed a lovely dinner followed by hearing from Brother Todd Kalas, Syracuse ’88, who is a respected TV announcer for the World Series Champion Houston Astros.
Todd’s late father, Harry Kalas, Iowa ’59 was a Phi and Hall of Fame announcer for the Philadelphia Phillies. Finally, another Houston point of pride, in the fall of 2017, Astros second basemen, Jose Altuve, was presented with the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award at an Astros home baseball game, with many Phi Delta Theta brothers in attendance.
Silver Legions who received their pins included three Phis from Sam Houston State – Jeff Peters, Matt Tonkin, and James Daugherty.
Golden Legionnaires included Scott Smith, Louisiana Lafayette ’69, Thorn Huffman, LSU ’69, Alex Newton, Duke ’71, and Ron Dillee, Texas ’68.
55 Year Palladian recipients included Win Campbell, Texas ’66, Bill Dwyer, Texas ’66, and Jacko Garrett, TCU ’65.
65 Year Palladian recipients included George Scott, Minnesota ’53, Byron Varme ’55, Minnesota, and Chuck Asfahl, Oklahoma ’56.
70 Year Palladian recipient was John Worsham, Texas ’51.
