Phi Delta Theta Names Moyer to General Headquarters Leadership Team

The Phi Delta Theta Fraternity is pleased to announce that Jesse R. Moyer, South Dakota ’03, has accepted a new position on the General Headquarters staff as senior vice president of member development and support effective January 1, 2020. In this role, Brother Moyer will lead Phi Delta Theta’s integrated educational efforts to offer transformational member development and lead health and safety programming as prescribed in the Fraternity’s new strategic plan, Phi Delt 2030. As a member of the General Headquarters Executive Cabinet, Brother Moyer will report to Chief Executive Officer Designee Sean Wagner and will lead the chapter services, education/events, housing, and health and safety departments.

“As we continue to redefine our value proposition through our efforts in Phi Delt 2030, there is no one better to recast our undergraduate and alumni member development. Jesse has been with us every step of the way on our recent educational journey through his prior service, and he is uniquely positioned to now join our team professionally to put our efforts into overdrive to ensure our place as the premier fraternal leadership society. Our members join Phi Delta Theta after experiencing the K-12 education system, a place Brother Moyer knows incredibly well. With that knowledge, Jesse and the rest of our team will work every day to enhance current programming and create new programming that improves the personal trajectory of each and every member,” said Wagner.

For the past eleven years, Brother Moyer has worked at KnowledgeWorks, a nonprofit foundation based in Cincinnati that specializes in strategic foresight and transformation to improve educational culture and student success. During his tenure at KnowledgeWorks, Moyer led strategic initiatives, policy and research, and most recently served as senior director of school development, leading KnowledgeWorks’ largest and most complex team which designs systems, tools, and processes to provide support to teachers and school district leaders across the country.

Brother Moyer brings a wealth of fraternity and education experience. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 2003 and after an outstanding undergraduate career, he joined the General Headquarters Staff where he served as a leadership consultant and director of chapter services until 2008. Brother Moyer went on to earn a master’s in education from Xavier University and a certificate in executive management from the University of Notre Dame.

Over the years, he has consistently served in key Phi Delta Theta volunteer leadership positions as Zeta province president (Southwest Ohio) and education commissioner before being elected to the General Council as member-at-large and reporter. Moyer officially stepped down from the General Council on November 12, 2019 after accepting the new position at Phi Delta Theta General Headquarters.

“I want to thank and applaud Jesse for his exemplary service to Phi Delta Theta as a long-time volunteer and member of our board over the past three years. Jesse’s insight on educational trends and systems, combined with his ability to lead and facilitate change, made him an outstanding General Council colleague and will make him an excellent addition to our staff leadership team,” said General Council President Dr. Chris Brussalis.

After approving Brother Moyer’s departure from the board, the General Council voted to appoint Past President of the General Council and current General Fraternity Warden Michael G. Scarlatelli to fill the vacancy created by the transition. Brother Scarlatelli will temporarily relinquish his post as warden to fulfill the position of General Council member-at-large for the remainder of the 2018-2020 biennium. In a related General Council action, J. David Almacy was elevated from member-at-large to General Council reporter.
